Ministries

Serving

At Mt. Horeb we believe that because our lives have been reconciled to God in Christ and set free from sin and death, in Christ we are given the grace and strength to be ministers of reconciliation, mercy, and justice here in our community and in the world. Below you will see several of the ministries in which we seek to love and serve.

Serving the Community
Valley Mission
The Valley Mission is a Christian non-profit organization in Staunton working to offer shelter, food, and support to those who are homeless or suffer from low-income. We support Valley Mission by preparing and serving meals for our friends who are residents there as well as by collecting needed items.

Disciples Kitchen
Disciples Kitchen is a soup kitchen program located at the Second Presbyterian Church in Waynesboro. A number of churches and other local groups provide meals-to-go now since the pandemic for those who are homeless or otherwise in need of food. Mt. Horeb provides meals 8-10 times a year through the leadership of the Presbyterian Women.

Backpack Food Program. In cooperation with other area groups, Mt. Horeb provides South River Elementary School students with backpacks with food for the weekend throughout the school year. They get easy-to-prepare food along with fresh fruit to help them get through the weekends. Church members place bags of food in backpacks for children to pick up on Friday afternoons. They also provide other items to help meet seasonal needs throughout the year.

In 2020, the Summerlee Mission took place locally due to the coronavirus pandemic, Teams went into the local communities to perform needed repairs. More information and photos from this year's mission.

Baja Mission
The Baja Mission Trip is a joint ministry of the congregations of the Presbytery of Shenandoah, PC(USA). Each year a team is sent from the churches to learn how Christ is there at work by his Spirit, to join in that work, and to witness the love of Christ in Baja, Mexico, through house building, mission outreach, and fellowship.

PC(USA) Mission Globally
Mt. Horeb supports a variety of mission programs in the global community. Living Waters for the World (LWW) is a mission program of the Synod of Living Waters, Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).  LWW trains volunteers to establish and lead water mission teams that partner with communities to implement and operate sustainable water purification systems and health education programs.  Mt. Horeb helps support the specific programs in Guatemala through support of the LWW Guatemala Network.
